What Is Gem Water? A Beginner’s Guide to Crystal-Infused Water
Gem water, sometimes called crystal-infused water, is simply drinking water that has spent time alongside gemstones. The idea is centuries old, and today many people enjoy it as a mindful daily ritual: a moment of beauty, intention and a gentle reminder to drink more water.
But before you drop a crystal into your water glass, there are a few important things to know. Here is our beginner’s guide to making gem water safely and beautifully.
Direct vs. Indirect Gem Water: Why It Matters
There are two ways to make gem water:
Direct method: placing stones straight into the water.
Indirect method: keeping the stones sealed in a separate glass vessel that sits in the water, so the water never touches the stones.
We strongly recommend the indirect method. Not every stone belongs in drinking water. Some minerals are soft, porous or water-soluble, and some contain elements like copper, lead or arsenic – malachite and cinnabar are two well-known examples. Even stones considered safe can carry dust, dyes, polishing residue or bacteria in their tiny crevices.
That is why we carry VitaJuwel. Their gemstones are sealed inside glass vials and pods, so you get all the beauty of the stones while your water stays clean.
How to Make Gem Water at Home
Fill a glass carafe or bottle with fresh drinking water.
Place your gemstone vial or pod inside.
Let it rest for a little while (check the instructions that come with your vial).
Pour, sip and enjoy. Refill throughout the day.
Rinse the vial and vessel regularly. A Bottle Cleaning Brush makes this easy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is gem water safe to drink?
Using the indirect method – with stones sealed in a glass vial – the water never touches the stones, so it’s as safe as the water you start with. Never put unidentified stones directly into drinking water.
Can I put any crystal in my water?
No. Some stones are toxic, soluble or porous. If you’re ever unsure, keep the stone out of the water and use a sealed vial instead.
Does gem water have health benefits?
There’s no scientific evidence that gemstones change the health properties of water. We love gem water as a ritual: a beautiful object on the table, a moment of intention, and a reason to stay hydrated.
