Floral Essential Oils Guide: Rose, Blue Lotus, Peony & More
Scent is one of the most powerful ways to bring the feeling of a garden into your home. At Exquisite Blumen, fragrance is part of every visit to our boutique, and our Blumen Botanics essential oil collection lets you take those floral notes home with you.
This guide walks you through each oil in the collection, how to use floral oils safely, and a few of our favorite blends to try.

How to Use Floral Essential Oils at Home
In a diffuser: add a few drops to the water reservoir, following your diffuser’s instructions.
In the bath: oils don’t mix with water, so blend a few drops into bath salts or a carrier oil first.
On linens and in the room: add a few drops to a spray bottle of water and shake before each spritz.
On skin: always dilute in a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond, and patch test first.
A few safety notes: never swallow essential oils, keep them away from children and pets (cats are especially sensitive), and check with your doctor before use if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
How to Dilute Floral Essential Oils
Essential oils are highly concentrated, so they should always be diluted before they touch your skin. A carrier oil such as jojoba, sweet almond or fractionated coconut oil does the job. These are common starting points for adults:
Face and sensitive skin (about 1%): roughly 5 to 6 drops of essential oil per 1 ounce (30 ml) of carrier oil.
Body oil and massage (about 2%): roughly 10 to 12 drops per 1 ounce (30 ml) of carrier oil.
Bath: 5 to 8 drops blended into a tablespoon of carrier oil or a handful of bath salts before adding to the water.
Use less for children, older adults or anyone with sensitive skin, and always patch test on the inner arm first.
How to Choose a Quality Essential Oil
Read the label. A good label tells you what’s inside, how to use it and how to store it.
Look for dark glass. Amber or cobalt bottles protect oils from light, which breaks them down.
Trust your nose. A beautiful floral oil should smell rounded and natural, not sharp or synthetic.
Buy what you’ll use. Smaller bottles stay fresh, and you can build a collection one favorite at a time.
How to Store Essential Oils
Keep bottles tightly capped, upright and away from heat and sunlight – a cool cupboard is ideal. Stored well, most oils keep their scent for a year or more. If an oil starts to smell flat or sour, it’s time to replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put floral essential oils directly on my skin?
No. Always dilute essential oils in a carrier oil first (see the dilution guide above) and patch test before using them more widely.
Are essential oils safe around pets?
Use caution. Cats in particular are very sensitive to essential oils. Diffuse in a well-ventilated room your pets can leave, never apply oils to animals, and ask your veterinarian if you’re unsure.
Which floral essential oil is best for relaxing?
Scent is personal, but lavender is a classic choice for winding down, and many people love rose or blue lotus for a calm evening. Try our Spa Evening blend above as a starting point.
What’s the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?
Essential oils are concentrated aromatic extracts from plants, while fragrance oils are blended scents that may include synthetic ingredients. Check each product’s label so you know what you’re using and how to use it safely.
